covid-19 crisis intervention counselling

"What's true of all the evils in the world is true of plague as well. It helps men to rise above themselves."
Albert Camus

I am Noemi Lakmaier, a UKCP accredited and BACP registered psychotherapist.

The Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak and the consequent lockdown, has thrown us all into uncertain, strange and, for many of us, difficult times.

I am now, in addition to my regular therapy practice, offering 'Crisis' Intervention Counselling, a new short-term service for anybody who is feeling overwhelmed during this period. This self-contained block of up to six 50-minute online sessions, over six weeks, aims to support you through any immediate crisis you are experiencing due to, or triggered by, the pandemic. I am offering this at £30 per session to make this service more widely accessible during this time.

Whether you are self-isolating, working from home, on furlough, worried about your loved ones, or working on the front line, it is worth acknowledging that living through this pandemic is a trauma. This means that for many of us it is difficult to fully process what is going on around us.

We might feel very anxious, agitated and hyper-vigilant, or be somewhat numb and disconnected from our feelings, or we may be feeling exhausted, depressed and tearful. All these responses and more are normal reactions to dealing with extreme stress. While we find ourselves in the middle of trauma, in-depth processing is rarely possible; this usually only happens years later, when we feel safe enough to deal with it.

However, having a counsellor/psychotherapist by your side during this period can be extremely useful in helping you find ways to stay emotionally and functionally ok and be kind to yourself.

This is why 'Crisis' Intervention Counselling aims to help you cope better with the immediate situation you find yourself in; it is different from long-term/on-going psychotherapy, which instead provides the scope for in-depth processing as well as exploring underlying issues and how they connect to who you are and how you live your life.

If you are interested in either 'Crisis' Intervention Counselling or long-term/on-going psychotherapy, and would like to find out more, please browse this website and get in touch.
